Sanuki Chuzouhin is a traditional metal-casting craft that developed in Mitoyo and Takamatsu cities in Kagawa Prefecture. Casting techniques are believed to have been introduced to Japan in the Yayoi period, and bronze bells and spears have been excavated from ancient ruins in Kagawa Prefecture. Molten metal is poured into handmade molds, shaped, and colored. Sanuki Chuzouhin craft techniques are used to make a wide range of products, including traditional gongs used in the lion dance at the autumn festival, Buddhist statues and temple bells, and various utensils and souvenirs.
