Glass manufacturing has a very long history in Japan stretching back to the Yayoi period (300 B.C.-250 A.D.). Although early glassmaking methods were quite simple, the technology has evolved over time, and modern manufacturing methods are often quite complex. Tefuki Garasu (or handblown glass) is a regional brand of Kyushu and Okinawa, Fukuoka Prefecture. Artisans use the traditional technique of winding molten glass around a pole and blowing it into shape while spinning it in the air.
