東京アンチモニークラフトは、東京都北東部から千葉県我孫子市にかけての地域で作られる金属工芸品です。その起源は、明治維新直後の1877年に遡ります。徳川幕府の武器製作に従事していた鋳物師や彫刻師が職を失い、彼らはその技術を応用してアンチモニーを様々な製品に用いました。アンチモニーは、表面が滑らかで型押しがしやすく、鋳造後も冷えても収縮しないという合金です。東京アンチモニークラフトでは、これらの特性を活かし、フィギュア、トロフィー、オルゴール、アクセサリー、インテリアなど、様々な製品に繊細で精巧な模様を施しています。さらに、金、銀、銅などでコーティングすることで、より高級感を演出します。
Tokyo Antimony Craft is metalwork produced in the area extending from the northeast of Tokyo to Abiko City in Chiba Prefecture. The craft’s origins date back to 1877, soon after the Meiji Restoration, when casters and engravers employed as weapon makers by the Tokugawa Shogunate lost their jobs. They quickly adapted their techniques to make a variety of products from antimony. Antimony is an alloy that creates a smooth surface that easily takes impressions, and it does not shrink as it cools after casting. Tokyo Antimony Craft makes full use of these properties to produce fine and highly detailed features on varied items such as figurines, trophies, music boxes, accessories, and interior goods. When coated with gold, silver, or copper, antimony pieces look especially luxurious.
