燕鎚起銅器
Tsubame Tsuiki Doki
鎚起銅器とは、鍛金技術のひとつで、鎚（つち）で打ち起こす銅の器、という意味です。
１枚の平らな銅板を、金づちや木づちで丹念にたたき、立体的な形にしていきます。さらに、伝統の着色技術で色をつけるのが、燕ならではの鎚起銅器の特徴です。銅器の表面は、金槌で叩いた面を広めに残した大槌目や、細かい金槌で文様を付けた物、彫金を施した物などがあります。着色も美しく、銅本来の色を生かした物から、硫化カリウムなどの液に漬け込む独自の技法を用いた物、錫を焼き付けた物など多彩です。
Tsubame-tsuiki copperware is a type of metalware originating from Tsubame, Niigata Prefecture. Since the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868), craftsmen have produced kettles and other crafts using copper extracted from nearby Mount Yahiko. They hammer malleable copper plating material by hand, a technique called “tsuiki.” Each product is hammered several hundred thousand times to create an extremely smooth surface. Tsubame-tsuiki copperware was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry in 1981.
