Takayama Naoya, a fourth generation lacquer artist, has been using the traditional craft techniques of Hiroshima Buddhist altars that have been passed down from generation to generation along with the technique of wax polishing he acquired during his training in Kyoto to develop lacquer crafts for everyday life. Hiroshima lacquer crafts are characterized by their matte texture, soft feel, and colorful colors.
