Lacquerware made in Takaoka city, Toyama prefecture, is characterized by the wide range of styles that can be enjoyed, represented by three techniques: "Aogai-nuri", "Yusuke-nuri" and "Chocho-nuri.” The Aogai-nuri technique uses a material called Aogai, which is made by thinly shaving the shiny part of a shell to create diamond or triangular pieces, which are then combined to express flowers, birds, landscapes, and the like.
