Nasubi Uchiwa

Nasubi fans were first invented by a samurai in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, in the late Edo period. The handle resembles the stem of an eggplant, and the fan is characterized by its elegance and durability. As the name "Nasubi" is associated with the meaning of "accomplishing things," it was presented to the Shogun family as a lucky charm, but the technique for making it was lost in the 1960s. Later, a merchant family in Tsu studied the technique and, after 10 years of effort, successfully revived it. Today, this family remains the only producer of Nasubi Uchiwa, maintaining the traditional methods without dividing the work.
