Misaki no Tairyo Hata

「三崎の大漁旗」は、古くから漁業が盛んな神奈川県三浦市で、筒描き染めの技法を用い、すべて手作業で作られています。江戸時代・1830年頃より幕府の御用職人として、戦の際の幟（のぼり）などを手掛けていた職人がその後、大漁旗を染めるようになりました。大漁旗は、航海安全と大漁を祈願して新造船祝いに贈られます。

Misaki's Tairyo-bata – or big catch flags – are made entirely by hand in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a city with a long history of fishing. In approximately 1830, during the Edo period, artisans who were conscripted to make war banners for the shogunate began dyeing the big catch flags. Tairyo-bata are given as gifts to celebrate the construction of new ships, in hopes of safe voyages and a good catch.
