Kaga Chochin

Kaga lanterns are made using the traditional method of cutting thin bamboo into rings, connecting them with cotton thread, and pasting washi paper on them. Unlike lanterns made of long bamboo wound in a spiral shape, Kaga lanterns are strong and stretchy, so even if one stalk breaks, the whole lantern will not come off. Today, craftsmen continue to make Kaga lanterns to order - primarily for shrines, temples, and festivals – and are also committed to training successors to ensure that this rare craft continues.
