地蔵様
Jizou sama
地蔵菩薩は、仏教の信仰対象である菩薩の一尊。釈尊の入滅後、弥勒菩薩が成仏するまでの無仏時代の衆生を救済することを釈迦から委ねられた菩薩です。地蔵菩薩の 起源は、インドのバラモン教の神話に登場する大地の女神プリティヴィーで、大地を守護し、財を蓄え、病を治すといった利益信仰があり、これが仏教にも取り入れられ、地蔵菩薩が成立したとされています。大地が全ての命を育む力を蔵するように苦悩の人々を、その無限の大慈悲の心で包み、救う所から名付けられました。日本における民間信仰では、道祖神としての性格を持つとともに、「子供の守り神」として信じられており、一般的に、親しみを込めて「お地蔵さん」「お地蔵様」と呼ばれています。
Jizo Bodhisattva is one of the bodhisattvas worshipped in Buddhism. He was entrusted with the task of saving all living beings in the age after the Buddha's death, until Maitreya Bodhisattva attained enlightenment. Jizo Bodhisattva originated from Prithvi, the goddess of the earth, who appears in the mythology of Indian Brahmanism. People believed that Jizo would protect the earth, accumulate wealth, and cure illnesses, and these beliefs were adopted into Buddhism, leading to the establishment of Jizo Bodhisattva. It is believed that just as the earth holds the power to nurture all life, Jizo embraces and saves people in suffering with its infinite compassion. In Japanese folk lore, Jizo Bodhisattva is believed to be a guardian deity of children, as well as a god of the road, and is affectionately called "Ojizo-san" or "Ojizo-sama."
