多度の弾き猿
Tado no Hajiki zaru
多度の弾き猿は、三重県桑名市多度町の郷土玩具です。明治時代の中頃から、多度大社門前町の土産物として製作、売られるようになりました。「はじき ざる」の名称が「（災難を）弾き去る」という言葉と語呂が合うことから縁起物として親しまれています。竹製の棒に、紅布で覆われた「くくり猿」と竹製のバネが通してあり、棒の先端には紙張りの小型の太鼓が取り付けられています。バネをはじいて猿を昇り降りさせて遊ぶもので、猿が先端まで昇りきれば、太鼓と衝突して音が鳴ります。太鼓を、多度大社で行われる流鏑馬の矢の的になぞらえて、中央に黒丸が墨書きされています。
The Tado Flipping Monkey is a local toy from Tado-cho, Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture. Production began in the middle of the Meiji period, when it was sold as a souvenir in front of Tado Taisha Shrine. The toy is popular as a lucky charm because"hajiki zaru" sounds similar to the phrase "to fling away (misfortune).” A monkey covered in red cloth and a bamboo spring are threaded onto a bamboo pole, and a small paper-covered drum is attached to the end of the pole. By flicking the spring, the player can make the monkey go up and down, and when it reaches the top, it collides with the drum, making a sound. The black circle inked in the center of the drum represents the arrow target for Yabusame horseback archery held at Tado Taisha Shrine.
