Nara Uchiwa

The history of Nara Uchiwa dates back to the 700s, when it was first made by priests at Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Beautifully carved with Nara scenery and Shosoin patterns, and made with twice as many bamboo sticks as usual, it can generate a strong breeze and is highly practical. Currently, only one store is involved in manufacturing and sales, but young craftsmen have taken over the business, honing their skills and actively promoting the industry by holding workshops and participating in exhibitions.
