金魚ねぷた
Kingyo Nebuta
「金魚ねぶた」は、青森県・津軽地方に伝承されている民俗行事である「ねぶた祭」に欠くことができない工芸品です。本来は灯籠として作られたものですが、 一般的に広まったのは江戸時代とされています。元々金魚は一部の上流階級の間でしか飼うことのできなかった高級魚でしたが、庶民は憧れを抱き、それを和紙などで作り、子供たちに祭りの時、提灯のように持たせ練り歩いたとされています。現在でも金運をもたらし幸福を呼ぶ縁起物として喜ばれ、馴染み深い工芸品として親しまれています。
Goldfish Nebuta are an essential craft item for the Nebuta Festival, a folk event handed down in the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture. Originally made as lanterns, these colorful creations became widespread during the Edo period. Goldfish were originally a luxury fish that only a select few of the upper classes could keep, so common people who longed for them began making them out of Japanese paper and children began carrying them around as lanterns during festivals. Even today, these familiar craft items are widely enjoyed as lucky charms that bring good fortune and happiness.
