Aizu-hongou Yaki

Aizu-hongo Yaki is a traditional handicraft from Fukushima Prefecture's Aizu region, boasting a 400-year history. Thought to originate in the Sengoku period, it was patronized by the Aizu domain lord from around 1603. Various pottery operations later launched independent production, resulting in a diverse range of ceramics and porcelain pieces, each with its own unique style. Aizu-hongo ware is differentiated by its varied decoration, including blue asbolite paint, other traditional Japanese paints, and Western paints. Many practical ceramics are produced using traditional enamel, featuring a variety of styles like celadon porcelain, white porcelain, and carbonization, with different glossy and non-glossy finishes and textures.
