Hachinohe Yaki, fired in the mountains of Hachinohe until the end of the Edo period, is renowned for its signature green hue that reminds people of the color of “seaweed swaying in the rough waves of the Sanriku ocean.” Located in the suburbs of Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, on the Pacific side of Northern Tohoku, and supported by abundant nature, this minyo (folk kiln) produced a variety of items, including daily tableware, flower vases, tea utensils, and sake vessels. Unfortunately, due to the lack of documentation of the techniques and history of this craft, revival has proved challenging.
