Dai Yaki is a traditional Japanese pottery-making technique that has been around since 1895. Dai Yaki originates from Hanamaki City, Iwate prefecture, a place that is well known for having rich, high-quality clay for pottery making. The signature color of Dai Yaki, a very light green, is called Seitoujiyu. Paintings on Dai Yaki teacups seek inspiration from nature. One of the biggest challenges in producing Dai Yaki was controlling the color. The craftsman went through multiple stages of experimentation to finally add a bright finish to the pottery instead of having it look gray.
