Bushu Migaki Hon Gawara refers to a high-quality traditional Japanese roof tile craft from the Bushu region, which corresponds to modern-day Saitama Prefecture (north of Tokyo). These tiles are particularly known for their polished surface (migaki) and have been a valued roofing material for temples, shrines, and samurai residences since the Edo period. The surface is hand-polished and burnished before and after firing, giving it a deep luster that resembles metal. Recognized as a Traditional Craft of Saitama Prefecture, a small number of artisans keep the craft alive today.
