Soba Choko

Soba Choko is a quintessential Japanese ceramic cup, primarily designed for tsuyu (soba dipping sauce). Its popularity surged during the Edo period (1700s) as soba became a common meal, leading to mass production of these small, stackable porcelain cups. Celebrated for their incredible decorative diversity, they feature techniques like sometsuke (underglaze blue) and iroe (overglaze enamels), reflecting Edo period aesthetics. Beyond soba, their versatile form made them popular for tea, sake, or small dishes. Today, Soba Choko are highly prized by collectors as charming miniature reflections of Japanese culture and artistry.
