Fujisawa Yaki

Fujisawa Yaki has a signature red finish that separates it from other pottery. The warm red tint is achieved by baking the pottery using red pine: the ashes of the pine fly out attaching then melting on the surface of the clay. Each finished Fujisawa Yaki pottery gives a rusty but warm feeling. Shinichi Honma is the inventor and the only craftsman making Fujisawa Yaki. The baking process for Fujisawa Yaki takes days. The pottery is placed directly inside the kiln without drying, and the temperature is gradually until it shows the signature red. The amount of the shape of red on each pottery is random thus making each piece unique.
