Ogatsu Suzuri (雄勝硯) is a inkstone made from high-quality slate in Ogatsu, Miyagi Prefecture. Known for its smooth surface, it’s ideal for grinding ink, essential for calligraphy and sumi-e painting. With over 600 years of history, the craft faced decline after the 2011 earthquake but has since been revived by local artisans.
