Toyama Mokuzougan

Toyama Mokuzougan (富山木象嵌) is a wood inlay craft from Toyama Prefecture. This technique involves embedding pieces of different colored wood into a base material to create intricate patterns and designs, often depicting landscapes, flowers, or tradi- tional motifs. The craft requires exceptional pre-cision and artistry, as each small piece of wood must fit perfectly into the design. Toyama Mokuzougan is highly valued for its detailed craftsmanship and its ability to blend natural wood tones to produce beautiful decorative objects, from furniture to ornamental pieces.
