Yamagata Hariko

幕末の頃、京都の士渋江長四郎が下条町に土着し、京都嵯峨人形の手法によって作ったのが始まりとされる山形張子。木型に和紙を水張りし、さらに上質和紙を貼り重ね、天日で乾燥させます。切り込みを入れて木型から外したら、貝殻をすりつぶした顔料を塗り重ね、絵付けをして完成。
ダルマや干支にまつわる動物など、数百個の木型が先代から受け継がれています。

山形張り子 (Yamagata Hariko) is a papier-mâché craft from 　　　　Yamagata. These handmade figures are created by layering washi 　paper over a mold, then drying and painting them with vibrant 　　　designs. Commonly depicting animals or lucky charms, Yamagata 　Hariko figures are known for their cheerful expressions and are 　　believed to bring good luck and happiness.
