Konoha Zaru

熊本県名郡玉東町木葉で作られている、猿の姿の焼き物です。
今から約1300年前、虎の歯（このは）の里に侘住まいをしていた都の落人が、夢枕に立った老翁のお告げにより奈良の春日大明神を祀り、木葉山の赤土で祭器を作って残りの粘土を捨てたところそれが猿に化けた、という伝説から生まれたと言われています。木の葉猿は全て手びねりで作られるため、1体1体微妙に体型や表情が異なるのが特徴。泥棒除けや災難・病退散、子孫繁栄の守り神として重宝されています。
