Botan Kokeshi

Botan Kokeshi (牡丹こけし) is a type of traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll that features the botan (peony) flower in its design. The peony is a symbol of beauty, prosperity, and good fortune in Japanese culture, making these dolls especially significant as gifts or decorations. The Botan Kokeshi typically follows the classic Kokeshi shape, with a cylindrical wooden body and a round head, but is distinguished by the vibrant, hand-painted peony motifs on its body. These floral designs are often rendered in rich colors like red, pink, and green, adding an elegant and artistic touch to the otherwise minimalist form. Like other Kokeshi, Botan Kokeshi dolls represent craftsmanship and cultural heritage, often associated with good luck, protection, and a connection to nature.
