Inu Hariko

Inu Hariko (犬張子) is a papier-mâché dog figurine, often gifted to young children as a symbol of protection, good health, and happi- ness. The dog, seen as a loyal and protective companion, was historically believed to guard against evil spirits and ensure safe childbirth. Inu Hariko is brightly painted, with a charming, playful design, making it a popular item for festivals and children's celebra-tions. The figurine is also commonly used during shrine visits to pray for children's well-being in Japan.
