真弓馬

茨城県の郷土玩具。
真弓馬はもとは、良馬を産した常陸太田市真弓町の山間部でつくられました。真弓馬のはっきりした起源は不明ですが、平安時代末期に、源義家が奥州征伐の途中に常陸の国に立ち寄り、戦勝を祈願して真弓神社に神馬と弓を奉納したという故事にちなんで、江戸時代に、良馬の生産を促そうと徳川光圀が考案したとも言われています。もともとは、真弓神社周辺の農民たちが農閑期に真弓馬をつくり、真弓神社の境内で参拝者に販売していたもので、やがて村松山虚空蔵堂で授与されるようになりました。
