米喰いねずみ

石川県金沢市周辺で1830年ごろから親しまれている郷土玩具・米喰いねずみ。木と竹で作られたシンプルなおもちゃで、からくり人形の流れを組んでいます。 竹ひごを押すと、ねずみが頭と尻尾を下げ、皿に置かれた米を食う動作をするのが特徴です。加賀百万石の13代将軍前田斎泰公が、足軽たちに手内職として作らせたのが始まりで、「コツコツ」とお米を食べる様子から、これで遊ぶとお金が増えると言い伝えられています。
Komekui Nezumi (米喰いねずみ), literally meaning "rice-eating mouse," is a traditional Japanese doll that symbolizes protection of crops, particularly rice, from pests. This folk character represents the natural struggle between farmers and mice, with the doll often crafted to invoke good fortune and a bountiful harvest.
