<Doll and Kokeshi>
Gunma no Kokeshi

Gunma produces over 70% of Japan’s creative kokeshi dolls, making it the heartland of modern kokeshi craftsmanship. These dolls break classic molds, taking on varied body shapes, heights, and innovative surface decoration. The painted designs on Gunma Kokeshi often include vibrant floral motifs or geometric patterns, reflecting the natural beauty and cultural aesthetics of the region. Though they may vary slightly in style, Gunma no Kokeshi shares the same symbolic meaning as other Kokeshi dolls, representing good luck, protection, and a deep connection to Japanese folk art.
