Aka Beko (赤べこ) is a traditional Japanese red cow figurine from 　the Aizu region in Fukushima Prefecture. Made from papier-mâché, this iconic folk toy features a bobbing head and is believed to bring good luck and protect against illness, particularly smallpox. The legend behind Aka Beko dates back to the construction of Enzo-ji Temple in the 9th century, where a red cow was said to have helped carry materials for the temple.
