Kubi Ningyou dolls, also known as “neck dolls” or "head dolls," are dolls characterized by their detachable heads. The head and body are crafted separately, allowing for interchangeable heads, often with different facial expressions or hairstyles. These dolls are typically made from wood or clay and were historically used in theatrical performances, such as Noh and Kabuki, where they could represent different characters by swapping heads. Kubi Ningyou dolls are a unique example of Japan's rich doll-making tradition and are still appreciated for their craftsmanship and cultural significance.
