Onikenbu Men Ningyo

These dolls represent the Oni Kenbu dance, a folkloric perform- ance originating from the Tohoku region, particularly Akita Prefecture. These dolls feature intricate masks that symbolize demons (oni) and are often crafted from wood or clay, showcasing vibrant colors and detailed designs. The Onikenbu dance itself involves performers wearing these masks, depicting the battle between good and evil through dynamic movements. The dolls serve as decorative pieces and cultural artifacts, reflecting the artistry and storytelling of Japanese folk traditions. They embody a sense of spirituality and cultural heritage, making them cherished items in Japanese households.
