Shimousa Some Komon

型紙を使用し、米糊を用いる染色技法です。 江戸時代の武士の礼装であった裃から町人の小袖に至るまで広く愛好されて現在に至っています。

Shimousa Some Komon is a traditional stencil dyeing craft from Funabashi City, carried on by Yasuo Suzuki, who trained under his father, Tomio Suzuki. This komon-zome technique uses stencils and rice paste to create intricate patterns, a style once worn by samurai as formal attire and later adopted by townspeople for everyday wear. Suzuki continues to uphold the full traditional process, from stencil preparation to dyeing, and is also dedicated to reproducing and preserving historical stencil designs.
