Nanbu Ancient Stencil Dyeing is a traditional craft rooted in the work of Ebisuya Sanemon, a dyer who served the Nanbu domain by creating patterns for samurai attire. Characterized by intricate indigo-based designs, the craft preserves over 130 historical patterns, including clan crests like Mukaizuru and Senba Chidori. Each piece is entirely handmade—from stencil carving to dyeing—honoring centuries-old methods. Today, artisans continue to pass down these techniques while also adapting them into modern accessories.
