Kiryu Shibori

Kiryu Shibori is a refined tie-dyeing technique developed in Kiryu, Gunma, a region long known for its excellence in silk textile production. Blending traditional methods with innovative ideas, Kiryu artisans combine dyeing, weaving, and shibori to create delicate and highly detailed works. This sophisticated process is used to produce pure silk kimonos, haori, coats, obi, shawls, and more. The intricate production involves multiple steps—from design and squeezing to dyeing, steaming, and finishing—resulting in beautifully crafted textiles that reflect the artistry of the region.
