In 1961, a group of 120 volunteer dye artists from Tokyo founded a dyeing village in what is now Joso City to preserve and advance Japan’s traditional dyeing techniques. The village focuses on Yuzen and indigo dyeing, blending time-honored methods with innovative approaches. In addition to producing and selling kimonos and interior items, the village hosts exhibitions showcasing elegant Yuzen works and offers hands-on dyeing experiences where visitors can create rugs, washi paper book covers, and original stoles.
