Kumagaya dyeing is a traditional Japanese pattern dyeing craft that developed along the Hoshigawa River in Kumagaya City, once known for its abundant spring water. The practice began spreading among commoners in the mid-Edo period, with indigo dyeing taking root in the region. Over time, the craft evolved to incorporate intricate Edo Komon stencil dyeing during the Ansei era (1854–1860) and the colorful, hand-dyed Yuzen technique during the Taisho period. Kumagaya dyeing is known today for its blend of precision and artistry, reflecting generations of innovation and refinement
