首里織
Shuri Brocade
沖縄は「工芸の宝庫」と言われていますが、特に織物はそれぞれ特徴のあるものが、県下各地で織り継がれています。その中でも、首里王府の城下町として栄えた首里では、王府の貴族、士族用に、色、柄共に、究極まで追求された格調高く、悠々として麗美な織物が、織り継がれ現在に至っています。紋織から絣に至るまで多彩に織られるのが首里織の特徴ですが、その中でも特に、花倉織や道屯織(どうとんおり)は王家、貴族専用とされ、首里でしか織られませんでした。
Shuriori originates in the Shuri area of Okinawa, where the Shuri Imperial Palace once stood, promoting elegant and highly sought after textiles and techniques. Shuriori is characterized by its weaving methods and vibrant color; Shuriori mainly utilized silk threads, kapok thread, hemp thread, and banana silk. The vibrant colors are achieved through the use of natural dyes such as Ryukyu Indigo, Fukugi, bayberry, chestnut tree, and the acacia tree.
