Mugiwaraboshi (straw hats) are the traditional craft of Kasukabe City in Saitama Prefecture. Kasukabe City has been the center of rice and wheat production as well as exporting hand-braided materials for making straw hats since the Meiji period. After sewing machines for hats were imported from Germany, Mugiwaraboshi has been made by sewing the material into a shape of a hat first, then molded by pressing each hat.
