This ingenious grain-processing tool has been manufactured since the end of the Edo period, primarily in the former villages of Kameyama and Matsuoka in Kimitsu County in the Kazusa region of Chiba Prefecture. Grains are placed in the funnel and the blades are then rotated by hand to create wind, which causes the heavy grains to fall to the bottom and light debris to be blown out through the outlet.
