These beautiful wooden bowls are a traditional Gunma craft. The main source material is Zelkova wood, and the entire process is integrated, from sawing to finishing and lacquering. The maker is an expert woodworker who has mastered multiple cutting techniques, including Odawara-style horizontal cutting and Yamanaka-style vertical cutting. The curves are carved using a vacuum potter's wheel that fits comfortably into the craftsman’s hand, and during the finishing stage, the surface is wiped with lacquer several times to reveal the beautiful wood grain, which is unique in each piece created.
