Long-handled umbrellas with inward-folding handles were widely used in the past, commonly by nobles, monks, and nobles on horseback. Toyotomi Hideyoshi reportedly used one during a cherry blossom viewing party at Daigo. In recent years, people have been using these umbrellas at outdoor tea ceremonies and parties as well as for interior decoration. Fuso Town has been making folding umbrellas for about 400 years, and the craft has been passed down through 14 generations. Traditional techniques are still being preserved today.
