Kamo city, located near the center of Niigata Prefecture, is mountainous and rich in natural resources, including paulownia trees, which have been extensively cultivated for centuries. Paulownia, the raw material for Kamo tansu, grows faster than other trees, and its color and grain make it ideal for high-quality furniture. With a history of more than 200 years of production of paulownia tansu chests, Kamo ranks first in Japan in tansu production volume and technique. It is the only place where the factory manages everything from growing the paulownia to harvesting the trees, removing tannins, drying the wood, and making furniture.
