Nanbu brooms are handwoven by artisans using natural materials such as broom corn that are grown without the use of pesticides. The strong curls in the tips of the brooms, a defining characteristic, are a result of the climate in Iwate Prefecture. Broom corn has a strong curl that can only grow in this region's climate. Each Nanbu broom is carefully finished by artisans, resulting in an excellent cleaning tool that can even pick up dust from carpets.
