A local bamboo craftsman in Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, began making Kogatake kouga in 1980 using the fleshy parts of bamboo from the Koga region as source material. Collage techniques are used to create detailed pictures that have a three-dimensional feel, and some of the pieces are baked to create nuanced shading.
