Kinosaki straw crafts have a 300-year history and are designated as a traditional craft of Hyogo Prefecture and an intangible cultural asset of Toyooka City. Craftsmen begin with paulownia wood boxes, chopstick rests, spinning tops, bells, and pendants, then decorate them with elaborate and colorful designs using dyed pieces of barley straw that are carefully inlaid in place.
