Ohno Mokko

Ohno Mokkou, or wooden vessels, are made by local craftsmen in Hirono Town, Iwate Prefecture, using abundant forest resources such as red pine, horse chestnut, Japanese elm, and zelkova. These hand-lathed objects are popular for everyday use because of their beautiful wood grain, which is revealed using what is known as the "half split” method, and also because of their durability and heat resistance. The wood is coated with prepolymer to make it easy to handle and resistant to staining.
