大阪欄間
OSAKA Ranma
大阪府大阪市や岸和田市、吹田市周辺などで作られている欄間です。欄間は、日本家屋において、部屋と部屋、あるいは部屋と廊下の境となる場所で、天井と鴨居の間に取り付けられる部材です。採光や換気などを目的としており、障子や細工を施した板などを使って、光や空気が通り抜けられるようになっています。大阪欄間の特徴は、「彫刻欄間」や「透かし彫り欄間」など、さまざまな技法があることです。風景などの図柄を、立体的に彫り込んで浮き上がらせる「彫刻欄間」は、屋久杉などの天然木の木目を活かし手間がかかる分、大阪欄間の代名詞といえます。
These beautiful ranma, or transoms, are made in Osaka City, Kishiwada City, Suita City, and nearby areas in Osaka Prefecture. Transoms are installed between the ceiling and lintel in Japanese houses, either between rooms or between a room and a corridor. Their purpose is to enhance lighting and ventilation by allowing daylight and air to pass through. Craftsmen make use of the grain of natural woods in making Osaka ranma and carve elaborate landscapes and other patterns that are highly labor-intensive.
