Shidogiri geta are a traditional craft of Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, and the city has the nation’s largest domestic production of them. These geta are made from dried kiri, a high-quality paulownia wood from the Tohoku region (Aizu and Echigo), which grows in a harsh cold and humid climate and is characterized by tight annual rings and beautiful grain. The material is light and highly absorbent, which makes these geta well suited to Japan's humid climate.
