These beautiful wooden toro (lanterns) were manufactured in Nara Prefecture from dried Yoshino cedar. Craftsmen process the wood, drill mortise holes, and assemble the pieces together using a base board as a foundation. Currently, lanterns like these are primarily used for decorations in alcoves and entranceways.
