Project

Summary: "Starting in Keihoku, the source of the timber that supported the construction of Heian-kyo, we aim to revitalize the region and rebuild the 'wood and lacquer culture' through forest regeneration, employment and collaboration with woodworking artisans, and attracting immigrants."

Biography

Born in 1978 as the fourth generation owner of Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi, a lacquerware shop founded in 1909, he graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at Hokkaido University and worked in other industries before joining Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi in 2004 to develop the company's unique, highly dispersed lacquer, Korin Urushi. Since then, he has recognized lacquer as an important element that connects people, nature, the past, and the future—many seemingly unrelated concepts—and has been working to convey the potential and appeal of lacquer from various perspectives.
